About
THE FUTURE BURNS opens a world where passion, intensity, and myth collide.
The exhibition of eighteen paintings and four works in sculpture was created as an urgent response against a life of absence and intellectualism that permeated my every move. For me, turning from these forces was a holy effort.
Through the use of a wide range of reference, the work reveals moments of turbulence, rage, and isolation, but also engages with themes of ceremony and receptivity. The title of the exhibition, THE FUTURE BURNS, makes reference to the consumptive nature of time, and was a result of the discovery that we might engage with the present moment in such a manner to reveal worlds beyond our comprehension. I have come to understand this way of working as something of the essence of what it means to be an artist, and it is a way I stumbled into out of faith and blind necessity.
It was through this practice of abandonment and detachment which allowed me to discover that we are not to be found in our activity; but rather - we are the ones who act.
